Solution

Salvation Army Boise was looking to increase donations for the families and individuals they serve. To do this, they planned to host a Red Kettle Kickoff fundraising luncheon to ask for donations. With much competition to garner attention and donations during the holiday season, they needed a way to jumpstart donations and catch their attendee's attention.

To build attendance and pre-event donations, Salvation Army Boise mobilized board members as table captains to invite their network and compete to collect pre-event donations through [GiveSmart’s] online donation forms. The pre-event donations were then displayed on the thermometer as the event started. Once a compelling story was shared, the speaker encouraged attendees to make mobile pledges using a keyword and directed their attention to the thermometer with donor names listed. During the remainder of the event, Salvation Army Boise input all their offline gifts collected (checks, cash, and pledge cards placed in red kettles on tables) and recognized them on-screen. With the help of the fundraising thermometer, the room was catalyzed to make donations until the goal was reached.

Impact

Their Red Kettle Kickoff fundraiser luncheon was triumphant, with over 200 attendance and 163 pledges secured. Salvation Army Boise raised over $59,000 in donations their first time using [GiveSmart]. Thanks to the automated reminders set up within the platform, 99% of pledges were fulfilled within 24 hours of the event. Now, Salvation Army staff can connect with their donors via text and send them updates on where and how their dollars are improving the lives of the families and individuals they serve.
