What we really loved about [GiveSmart] was the expert advice we received for setting up our Event Page and live stream, just weeks before the event.”

Challenge

Solution

Believe Big, a nonprofit Christian organization dedicated to helping individuals prevent and overcome cancer holds their Believe Big Fundraising Dinner every year. The dinner is an essential source of annual funding, and with the social distancing guidelines implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, the team couldn’t afford to forgo the event. Believe Big needed assistance in transitioning their in-person fundraising event into a virtual one.

Ivelisse Page, Believe Big’s Executive Director and Co-Founder, reached out to [GiveSmart] to help her set up an Event Page with Livestream details, links, and an announcement video. The Event Page also included a custom countdown clock to the event, engaging registrants the same way an in-person event would. A form on the event registration page collected contact information from viewers. [GiveSmart] and Believe Big also worked together to set up reminder emails and text messages before the event. Believe Big sent reminder emails one week, one day, and one hour before the Livestream. Fifteen minutes before the virtual event, Believe Big sent a reminder text message through [the platform’s] mobile messaging with links to their Event Page.

To create the Livestream event, the Believe Big team pre-recorded videos of each speaker’s portions, and a production team edited all the videos together to create one presentation. The event was broadcasted live simultaneously through Facebook, YouTube, and their [GiveSmart] Event Page. Page worked with [GiveSmart] to create a script and display the text-to-donate instructions on the panel of the Livestream video.

Impact

The primary goal of the virtual Big Annual Fundraising Dinner was to encourage those battling cancer to overcome it. The Believe Big Team garnered over 1,200 Livestream viewers during their event. They also raised over $200,000, a net total more than last year. Because the event was virtual, this allowed Believe Big to capture new out-of-state donors who would have otherwise been unable to attend. Half of the live stream viewers were outside Believe Big’s headquarters in Maryland. They received 263 gifts from donors, with 129 new to the organization.
