Wordle: Best Fundraising Words to Try
Wordle went from 90 players in October 2021 when it launched to millions of players across the globe today. It’s a simple, guilt-free ritual that everyone seemingly knows not to spoil.
But when you start to play, do you find yourself forgetting every five-letter word you know?
Give these fundraising words a try, and you might get the Wordle of the day in four or fewer tries.
Items
While words that end in “s” are rare Wordles of the day, “s” appears in just about one in every four answers. Including an “s” in your starter word is a great place to start.
We’ve run tens of thousands of silent auctions at virtual and in-person events, and we’ve seen some incredible fundraising as a result. If you’re looking for silent auction item inspiration, check out 30 Silent Auction Items That Don’t Cost a Dime.
Feeling like you could use more auction items? Take a look at what has performed well in past years and partner with your people. Provide your board of trustees, high-level volunteers, and committee members with a list of most wanted items. They likely have connections and can make the ask on your behalf!
Skill
Repeat letters are tricky and have fooled quite a few players. Don’t find yourself fooled when it comes to keeping up with fundraising trends.
Donor relationships and experiences are coming back into focus in 2022. Consider the reasons that donors both care and give generously. Make sure you treat your donors as individuals who have personal reasons for being connected to your mission.

Ahead
Some Wordle players swear by starting with vowel heavy words and others swear by consonant heavy words. There are arguments for each as a starter strategy to boost your chances of getting the right word.
You can do things to boost your fundraising, too. GiveSmart customer, Friends of Blaine, included a voting competition in one of their fundraisers.
They hosted a holiday decorating contest with school families and sponsors, who were local businesses. Decorators and sponsors paid a registration fee, and the public donated $1 per vote to choose winners in a few categories. Check out images from their fundraising campaign page for more inspiration.
Grant
Are you someone who plays to win Wordle in the shortest amount of guesses, or do you try to use all your chances quickly to eliminate possible letters? Are you about the longer game or quicker win?
Nonprofit grants have a place in your fundraising strategy, too. But, grant application and management are challenges for many nonprofits. If you and your team can maintain grant requirements, you can grow this line item in your budget to better support your future mission initiatives.
Games
How could we talk Wordle words without including games? What makes Wordle so universally appealing? Is it that it is so easy to play? The fact that its origin is a love story? The satisfaction of winning?
Fundraising games are a win, too!
From tricky tray to wine pulls, hole-in-one contests, balloon pop, and more—games allow for a lower price point, decreasing the barrier to entry for many supporters.
Whatever games you add to your fundraising campaigns, make sure they are easy to understand, that you are leaning into your technology for execution—no one needs slips of paper or endless paper lists —and that your games bring fun and creativity.
Don’t forget, friendly competition may also increase your fundraising potential as donor competition fuels giving.
Hopefully, these fundraising Wordle words will not only get you ahead in your daily play but also in your fundraiser planning. You can find growth success, too, just like Wordle.
